Statues are symbolic of art, culture, religious values and history. There are fascinating statues around the world that gain lot of attention and have even become tourist spots.

The statues are sublime expression of creativity and human will. These statues honor great men and historical events of significance.

Here we look at some of the most distinctive statues in the world. These are the tallest statues in the world presently. They stand tall to testify the spirit of human beings and the levels of excellence they can reach by their efforts.

1. Statue of Unity, India, 182 metres

The tallest statue in the world is now the statue of unity. The statue of the iron man from India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel stands 182 m in height. It was inaugurated on October 31st, 2018 by Narendra Modi, P.M. of India.

The statue is erected in Narmada district of Gujarat. It is 100km far from the city of Vadodara. The statue has been built in over three and half years with more than 3,000 workers, including 300 engineers.

India has given tribute to its first Home & deputy Prime Minister with this marvelous statue, which now stands as the tallest in the world.

2. Spring Temple Buddha, China, 153 meters

Spring Temple Buddha statue is now the second tallest statue in the world.

It’s stands 153 m high. It’s located in Henan, China. For the last 10 years, it was the tallest statue in the world, now overtaken by the statue of unity.

The construction of the statue started in 1997 & took 11 years to complete the statue in 2008. The status is an architectural masterpiece & stands on 20 meter tall lotus throne, consist of 1100 pieces of a copper cast.

The statue portrays Vairocana Buddha and the whole statue was built using gold, copper and steel. The structure was built to respond to the annihilation of the Bamiyan Buddhas in Afghanistan by the Taliban.

3. Laykyun Setkyar, Myanmar, 116 meters

The third tallest statue in the world is Laykyun Sekkya, in Khatakan Taung, Myanmar. Again, it’s a statue of Buddha. The statue is 116 m high.

The construction of Laykyun Setkyar started in 1996 and was completed in 2008. The statue stands on a throne.

This statue is quite unique and also has an elevator inside. The elevator takes visitors to the top of the statue, which shows a great view of the city.

Visitors can also see the 89 meter lying Buddha next to Laykyun Setkyar statue.

People worship and pray the statue of Buddha. The statue is surrounded by 9,000 Bodhi trees & full of natural vibrance.

4. Ushiku Daibutsu, Japan, 110 meters

Ushiku Daibutsu means ‘Great Buddha in Ushiku’ located in Ushiku city of Japan. The statue has a height of 110 meters without measuring 10 meters tall base.

The statue of Buddha is made of Bronze. This statue is also equipped with an elevator that takes visitors to the observation floor. The statue depicts Buddha of infinite light and radiance.

The statue has four levels, which can be reached by the elevator. The first level has beautiful and soothing music. The second level is dedicated for scriptures. The third level has 30,000 Buddha statues. From the top level, visitors can view the beautiful scenery and the surroundings of the statue.

The statue was the tallest in the world for nine years from 1993 to 2002. As of 2018, it is still among the five tallest statues in the world.

5. Guan Yin, China, 108 Meters

The statue of Guan Yin, Buddhist Goddess of compassion is situated in Hainan province of China. This statue has a height of 108 m. It is now the fifth tallest statue in the world.

This statue has three aspects to represent blessing & protection by Guanyin of China and the the world.

The first face looks towards the inland and other two faces point towards the sea. It took 6 years for the completion of this giant statue, it was enshrined in 2005.

It is one of the tallest statues in the world, located to another shrine known as Nanshan Temple. The appearance of the statue is different, because the goddess depicts three faces.

6.Emperors Yan and Huang, China, 106 meters

The statue was dedicated to two great Chinese emperors Yan and Huang. It is located in Zhengzhou, the capital of Henan province, China. The height of the statue is 106 m.

The construction of the structure shows the faces of the two emperors carved on the mountain top on the Yellow river.

The construction of the statue was started in 1987 and it took an unbelievable 20 years to complete the construction. The statue is dedicated to the politics and economy.

7. Sendai Daikannon, Japan, 100 meters

Sendai Daikannan is a 100 m tall statue located in Sendai, Japan. The statue represents the Japanese Buddhist Bodhisattva. The statue stands at the top of a hill in Sendai. The statue is visible from many parts of the city.

Boddhisatva, in Buddhism ,refers to a person who is able to reach nirvana(enlightenment) but delays doing so through compassion for suffering beings.

Sendai Daikannon holds a rounded jewel in the right hand to grant wishes of the followers. A water flask in the left hand to pour the water of wisdom.

The statue has elevators where tourists can reach the top of the statue and view the entire city. There are 108 Buddha statues inside the statue.

8. Peter the Great statue, Russia, 98 meters

The statue was  constructed to reminisce Russian emperor Peter I, who ruled the country for 43 years.  The 98 m tall Peter the Great statue is built on the Moskva river in Moscow city.

The statue was designed to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the establishment of the Russian navy, used 600 tons of stainless steel and Bronze. Peter the great statue weighs 100 tons and it was unveiled in 1997.

It has a height of 96 meters which makes it the eighth tallest statue in the world.

9. Great Buddha, Thailand, 92 meters

Great Buddha of Thailand is the tallest statue in Thailand. It has a height of 92 m. The construction of this statue started in 1990 by the Thailand government and was completed in 2008.

The statue is covered with gold paint. The golden Buddha shines through and sits in a posture of meditation. The statue is also known as the Big Buddha.

It is one of the tallest statues in the world. The statue is located 140 km north of Bangkok, in Ang Thong Province of Thailand. The status also has a hell park, near it. It depicts the fate of sinners and evil doers.

10.Grand Buddha at Lingshan, China, 88 meters

It is one of the largest statues of Buddha in China, located in Longshan mountain. The statue has a height of 88 m. It is made up of bronze and weighs over 700 tons.

The statue is located in a tourist spot that covers many Buddhist sites and spans an area of 74 acres. It attracts people from all religions and faith from across the world.

The statue has a magnificent landscape facing Taihu Lake and has three hills in its vicinity. It is believed that the great Buddha is observing all living beings, smiling and protecting his people in this statue.
